Remembering Debra (Debbie) Comfort (1957-2024)

This past fall, the Artistic Skating Community mourned the loss of Debra (Debbie) Comfort (1957-2024), an avid skater, coach, judge, and active member of Roller Sports Canada.

Debbie had an infectious love for skating, providing several generations of skaters with guidance and opportunities to deepen their understanding of and passion for our sport. Starting out as an ice skating coach, Debbie later coached artistic roller skating in Cambridge and managed several roller rinks in southern Ontario. In addition to teaching her own skaters, she also generously aided young coaches in learning their craft, and served as a judge for Roller Sports Canada. Our community was very fortunate to learn from her wealth of knowledge over the years. She will be greatly missed.

The World Skate Games in Rome was really like no other events I have ever seen or participated which was very cool especially in Rome! I got to compete with some of the best riders in the world.The support my family and friends gave was very helpful, the park was different and challenging than other skateparks but it helped me learn so much. Thanks to RSC for this breathtaking experience and I can’t wait for the next one!

Les World Skate Games à Rome étaient vraiment uniques, un événement comme je n'en avais jamais vu ou participé auparavant, ce qui était très cool, surtout à Rome ! J'ai eu l'opportunité de concourir avec certains des meilleurs riders du monde. Le soutien de ma famille et de mes amis a été très précieux. Le skatepark était différent et plus exigeant que les autres, mais cela m'a permis d'apprendre énormément. Merci à RSC pour cette expérience à couper le souffle, j'ai hâte de la prochaine !

Cette expérience était mémorable, j'étais très fière de représenter le Canada à Rome !
Être là avec mes amis, ma famille et tous les gens du monde entier était incroyable. Rouler avec les meilleures filles au monde était un beau défi, je me suis surpassée et j'ai hâte de recommencer!
J'ai appris tellement de choses sur cette compétition et je suis super excitée de concourir en 2025 avec tout le monde !!

This experience was memorable, I was very proud to represent Canada in Rome!
Being there with my friends, my family and everyone from around the globe was incredible. Riding with the best girls in the world was a great challenge, I pushed myself and I can’t wait to do it again!
I learned so many things about this competition and I’m super excited to compete in 2025 with everyone!!
