ABOUT SCOOTER

Scooter events use the Run format for every competition round. The run format has athletes skating the field of play (FOP) solo for a set amount of time or until they fall within that set time. The athletes compete for the best out of two runs – time of each run is communicated prior to registration.

Five judges award point for each run- with the lowest and highest score taken out- and these points determine final scores. In the finals, usually only the lowest score of that run is discarded. Park competition typically occurs in three rounds: 1) Qualifier, 2) Semi-final, 3) Final.

STREET COMPETITIONS

Typically occur in three rounds, but competition formats in each round vary.

  • Qualifier: may utilize a run or jam session format
  • Semifinal: standard format
  • Final: Standard format

RUN FORMAT

  • Each athlete performs two runs of 45-seconds each
  • Five judges award points (on a scale of 0.00-100), with the highest and lowest scores then being dropped, and the three remaining scores averaged to a two-decimal number
  • The better of the two 45-second runs is used to determine ranking

JAM SESSION FORMAT

  • Athletes compete in a 3-rider jam session for a set time of two minutes
  • Five judges award points (on a scale of 0.00-100), with the highest and lowest scores then being dropped, and the three remaining scores averaged to a two-decimal number

Standard format (one run + one trick, performed 2 times)

  • Athletes perform 1 run of 45 seconds, followed immediately by 1 single trick attempt, and then repeat the process – (1+1/1+1)
  • Essentially each athlete completes two sets of one run followed by a single trick attempt
  • Within each set, the 45 second run is weighted at 70% and the single trick attempt is weighted at 30% for scoring purposes
  • Again, the middle three scores from 5 judges are averaged to two decimal places to determine ranking

EQUIPMENT

  • Each athlete shall scooter using safety gear they deem necessary
  • Helmets are compulsory for all athletes under the age of 18 in the street discipline and for all riders in the park discipline
  • Elbow, knee, shin, wrist pads are all optional
  • A deck with a bar and two wheels attached by a fork in the front wheel and tube truck in the back wheel
  • Only non-electrical push scooters are permitted, no folding mechanism or scooters with more than two wheels are permitted
  • Wheels may be up to maximum 135mm in size
